At the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, the athlete became an international sensation with her first perfect ten on asymmetrical bars. She went on to achieve six other perfect 10, giving her the distinction of being the smallest Olympic all-around gold medalist at only 14 years old. Not only did Nadia Comaneci get attention from all angles, but she also helped Romania find itself a place in the world map. In achieving a result that was inconceivable the sport's icon helped bring gymnastics into the spotlight of world the spotlight. This also influenced the public's view of female gymnasts.
